A Letter from Santa to the Elves – December 2020

From Santa Claus to the Elves of the North Pole

A Letter from Santa to the Elves

My dearest Elves,

As I sit here at the desk in my office at home, the fire is crackling and popping, and Mrs Claus has long since turned in for the night. You would think that for a man who has spent centuries writing letters, this would be an easy task.

However, with a little over four weeks remaining until Christmas Eve, so many thoughts drift through my mind, and still I struggle to find the right words to express what I feel after the year we have all had.

We have faced many difficult times together over the years, yet 2020 brought with it a challenge unlike any we had known before.

The first word that comes to mind when I reflect on it all is this: pride.

Pride in each and every one of you. Pride in our friends and allies around the world who rallied to help us. And pride in all the children of the world.

You, my friends, never cease to amaze me. Even when faced with the toughest of challenges, you meet them head-on—with positivity and hearts full of joy.

Children across the world have been asked to overcome many new trials this past year, and it has been truly inspiring to witness their bravery. It is the actions of you all that have strengthened my resolve and made me more determined than ever to deliver a little magic to the world this Christmas Eve.

The Privilege of Christmas Eve

I must confess, I always feel a small tinge of guilt on Christmas Eve.

For it is I who travels the world, visiting children’s homes and leaving gifts beneath their trees. At times, I wish that each and every one of you could join me, for it often feels as though I have been given the finest role of all.

Yet the truth is this: I am merely the one who delivers the fruits of your labour.

I receive much of the credit… but it is you who deserve it.

I am, in essence, nothing more than the delivery driver.

So on behalf of every child in the world—and also Mrs Claus and myself—I wish to thank you for yet another year of extraordinary dedication, kindness, and unwavering effort.

The True Source of Christmas Magic

Each year, Santa Claus Magazine asks me to write this letter to you all. The expectation is that, as Christmas approaches, I offer words of motivation as we enter the busiest and most important weeks of the year.

But the longer I do this, the clearer it becomes…

You do not need me to motivate you.

It is I who draws strength and inspiration from you.

Your relentless energy. Your boundless kindness. Your ability to bring joy to children you may never meet. Even in the smallest of tasks, your hearts shine brightly with purpose.

You inspire me more with each passing year.

A Message to the Human World

With readers now joining us from the Human World, I feel it is important they understand something clearly:

It is you—the Elves of the North Pole—who make all of this possible.

It is you who open your home to Mrs Claus and myself.

It is you who create the magic that the world celebrates.

And it is you who deserve their gratitude far more than I ever could.

As Christmas Draws Near

So, my dear friends, thank you.

It has been nothing short of an honour to stand beside you for another year.

And now, as we approach the final weeks before Christmas, let us come together once more…

To make this Christmas more magical than ever before.

Magical wishes,
Santa Claus
