The Hall of Records
From the Hall of Records
The Keepers of All Knowledge
For many, many years, we Elves have been the keepers of ancient records.
We have gathered scrolls, documents, and books for thousands upon thousands of years, collecting knowledge from every corner of the world. From the histories of Humankind across many lands and cultures, to the writings and wisdom of other ancient magical races, all has been carefully preserved.
Many manuscripts believed by Humans to have been lost to time are, in truth, kept safe at the North Pole… stored within what we call The Hall of Records.
A Purpose Beyond Ourselves
Those of us who dwell at Santa’s Village have always held one purpose above all others: to serve mankind.
To do so, we believe we must understand the world in its entirety — its creatures, its histories, its triumphs, and its mistakes. It is our duty to preserve this knowledge for future generations.
And when the time is right, the information held within the Hall will be revealed… to guide, to teach, and to help all who share this world.
The First Structure of Santa’s Village
When construction of Santa’s Village first began, many centuries ago, one of the very first buildings to be raised was the Hall of Records.
To us Elves, the past is never forgotten — for within it lie the lessons that shape the future. Every scroll, every record, every fragment of knowledge is a piece of a much greater story.
The Naughty and Nice Year Glasses
Among the countless wonders housed within the Hall of Records, there exists one of the most important creations of all:
The Naughty and Nice Year Glasses.
Long ago, when Santa Claus and Mrs Claus agreed that only nice children should receive a visit each Christmas Eve, a way was needed to gently and fairly observe the actions of every child.
And so, the Year Glasses were created.
A Record for Every Child
Within the Hall of Records, every child has their own wooden pigeon hole.
Each is marked with a brass plaque, engraved with their name and date of birth. Within it rests their personal Year Glass, along with every letter they have ever written.
When a baby is born, a special team of Elves carefully tune a Year Glass using a touch of magic, binding it to that child for life.
The Balance of a Year
As each year unfolds, the Year Glass quietly records a child’s actions.
Every kind deed causes grains of sand to fall to the Nice side
Every unkind act moves grains to the Naughty side
And so, without judgement or interference, the balance of a child’s year is gently recorded.
When the time comes for Santa to prepare the Naughty and Nice Lists, the answer is already clear.
Those whose Year Glass holds more sand on the Nice side are placed upon the Nice List.
And those whose balance has tipped the other way… are given the chance to do better in the year ahead.
A Living Archive
The Hall of Records has never remained still.
It grows, evolves, and adapts alongside the ever-changing world. New knowledge is gathered, new records are kept, and new mysteries are carefully protected.
For while much is stored within its walls, not all is ready to be revealed.
Protected for the Good of All
The Hall of Records is guarded by protections that must remain secret.
Such is the value of what lies within.
Only when the High Council of Elven Elders deems the time to be right will certain knowledge be shared. Until then, it remains safe… preserved for the benefit of the entire world.
From the earliest records of the world to the quiet tracking of each passing year, the Hall of Records stands as a living memory of all that has been.
And within its walls, the story of every child, every act, and every moment of kindness continues to be written.
