At the North Pole, there is an old custom concerning unexpected visitors.
First open the door. Then put the kettle on. Questions can wait.
Huatua calls it the Law of the Winter Hearth, and Cranberry Cream Tea was created in its honour.
Rich, comforting and wonderfully festive, this beautifully aromatic black tea has the unmistakable character its name promises: the bright, fruity taste of cranberry softened by a deliciously smooth, creamy flavour.
Yet its story begins many generations ago, during one particularly terrible North Pole winter.
Snow had fallen for nine days without stopping. Paths disappeared, doors became buried and even experienced Elven travellers found themselves seeking shelter wherever a light remained burning.
At The North Pole Tea Shop, Huatua's predecessor kept the hearth alight throughout the storm.
Anyone who reached the door was welcomed inside.
And for every traveller, he brewed the same tea.
Black tea for warmth and fortitude, flavoured with the character of cranberry — that remarkable northern fruit which survives in cold, difficult landscapes and whose brilliant red berries have long brought colour to the darkest months of the year.
But the Tea Master thought his winter brew needed something else.
Something softer.
Something that tasted like coming home.
And so he created the smooth, creamy finish that transformed the blend into Cranberry Cream Tea.
The storm eventually passed.
The tea remained.
Over the generations it became associated with an old North Pole belief: that hospitality freely given during winter brings good fortune back to the house before spring.
Huatua is particularly fond of this tradition.
During December, a pot of Cranberry Cream Tea is frequently kept warm behind the counter. Workshop Elves stop by after their shifts. Reindeer keepers arrive with snow upon their coats. Post Elves thaw frozen fingers around steaming cups.
Occasionally, someone stays rather longer than intended.
Huatua never minds.
As he likes to say:
"A good tea should give you a reason not to hurry away."
