How Santa Claus Was Chosen
The Secret Origins of Santa’s Greatest Calling
Excerpt Take from Santa Claus: The Book of Secrets by Russell Ince
Long before the world knew the name Santa Claus, before the sleigh, the reindeer, and the magic of Christmas Eve, there was simply a man invited to the North Pole to hear an extraordinary proposal.
A proposal that would change the world forever.
The Summoning to the North Pole
After arriving at the hidden Elven Village, I was taken before the High Council of Elven Elders — a sacred circle made up of the oldest, wisest, and most powerful Elves in existence.
It was there that they revealed their vision.
The Elves explained that they wished to create something the world had never seen before:
A figure who would serve all mankind by spreading hope, wonder, kindness, and joy across the globe.
That figure would become known as Santa Claus.
The Purpose of Christmas
The High Council believed that delivering gifts to the children of the world on one special night each year would achieve something truly magical.
It would ignite imagination.
It would spread hope.
And it would create a feeling of joy powerful enough to last throughout the entire year.
The Elves understood something humanity often forgets:
Children hold the future of the world in their innocent hands.
Because of this, it was decided that children would be the ones to receive the gifts of Christmas.
As the ancient Elven saying teaches:
“When a child smiles, the whole world smiles with them.”
Why Santa Was Chosen
The High Council explained that they had secretly watched me for many years.
They had seen my kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others, and they believed I had proven myself worthy of becoming Santa Claus.
If I accepted their offer, my wife and I would leave behind our old lives and travel to live permanently amongst the Elves at the North Pole.
There, we would share in the Elves’ long lifespan and dedicate ourselves entirely to the service of Christmas for the rest of our days.
In return, we would vow to spend our lives spreading goodwill, generosity, and hope throughout the Human World.
The Gifts of the Elven Elders
The High Council also revealed that they had created several extraordinarily rare and powerful magical gifts to aid whoever became Santa Claus.
These sacred artefacts would help spread the magic of Christmas to every corner of the world and ensure that hope and joy could endure for generations to come.
Such treasures were beyond anything humans had ever known.
The Beginning of Santa Claus
How could I possibly refuse?
To spend my life bringing joy to children, spreading kindness across the world, and dedicating myself to the spirit of giving was more than I could ever have dreamed.
And so, from that day forward…
I became Santa Claus.
